Treasury's Double-Edged Buyback Plan Leaves Bitcoin Flat
The US Treasury Department made two major announcements about its liquidity-support buybacks for government debt within a short period. First, it doubled the maximum size of these buybacks to $3 billion, and then tripled it to $6 billion just a few weeks later.
Bitcoin's price reacted positively to the initial announcement, surging from around $65,000 to over $80,000 within a short period. However, when the Treasury announced that it would triple the maximum size of these buybacks to $6 billion, Bitcoin's price remained flat and even dipped slightly.
The US Treasury Department explained that it made this decision in response to market conditions. Jordan Lyanchev, writing for CryptoPotato, noted that the initial announcement had a significant impact on Bitcoin's price but not the second one. He posed the question of what changed between the two announcements.
