TRON is taking proactive steps to prepare its network for the potential threats of quantum computing. The decentralized blockchain platform has started testing cutting-edge quantum-resistant security models on its Nile Testnet.

The goal is to become the first quantum-resistant blockchain network, as stated by TRON founder Justin Sun. This move comes as a response to the growing threat of refined quantum computers that could undermine widely used encryption standards.

TRON is testing post-quantum cryptographic protections on its Nile Testnet, which will allow it to assess the performance of unique cryptographic standards across practical on-chain operations. The platform is also examining the application of quantum-resistant cryptography across various components of the blockchain model, including block production, smart contract signature verification, network infrastructure, and peer-to-peer node handshakes.

The testing is being done using the standardized algorithm ML-DSA-44, which was built under the post-quantum cryptography initiative of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This algorithm is reportedly secure against attacks made possible by advanced quantum computers.
