Tronify.rent Crypto Scam Linked to $69,651 in September Losses
A crypto investigator has linked the website Tronify.rent to alleged losses totaling $69,651, affecting approximately 80 victims in September. The report, published by JP, founder of IOC Investigations, identified 12 TRON addresses associated with the suspected operation. However, no independent blockchain-forensics report confirmed the full loss figure across those addresses.
Tronify.rent markets itself as a TRON energy rental service, claiming to reduce transaction costs for TRC-20 transfers and assuring users that their assets remain under their control. Despite these claims, victim accounts paint a different picture. A Reddit user reported losing 2,590 USDT after connecting their Trust Wallet to the site and later filed a complaint with the FBI. JP's investigation suggested similar losses for about 80 individuals during September, though he did not provide a detailed transaction-by-transaction breakdown supporting the $69,651 figure.
Security warnings about Tronify.rent predated JP's report. PhishDestroy flagged the domain in February, assigning it a critical threat score of 90 out of 100. The service also recorded abuse reports and threat-feed detections linked to the website. Despite these warnings, the domain remained accessible, and no independent audit confirmed Tronify.rent's claims of meeting SOC 2 Type II standards.
One unusual aspect of the investigation involves Google Gemini. JP reported that one victim asked Gemini whether Tronify.rent was safe before using the service and claimed to receive an answer that appeared to confirm the website's safety. However, no public Google statement confirmed this exchange, and the victim's exact prompt or Gemini's full response were not disclosed.
