TruGolf Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUG) has made a strategic move into the institutional-grade tokenization sector by acquiring Polymath Research Inc. and its Layer-1 blockchain, Polymesh. The acquisition positions TruGolf at the forefront of regulated tokenization, a market where industry giants like BlackRock Inc. (NYSE: BLK), Nasdaq Inc. (NASDAQ: NDAQ), Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (NYSE: ICE), and Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) are already operating.
The bottleneck in the tokenization of real-world assets, such as equipment, franchises, real estate, and private credit, is compliance. Assets with securities obligations require built-in identity verification, transfer restrictions, and regulatory controls. Polymath's Polymesh network is designed specifically for these needs, embedding compliance and identity checks directly into its base layer.
Polymath has already demonstrated significant traction, with over $132 million in tokenized assets issued, more than 65 active issuers, and 50-plus ecosystem partners. The company is also exploring a tokenized film investment platform with CineCity Studios, further diversifying its use cases beyond golf and franchising.
TruGolf plans to leverage Polymath's infrastructure first within its own franchise network. The company is developing an equipment leasing program funded through tokenized securities, offering fractional ownership opportunities for qualified franchisees. This in-house deployment aims to serve as a proof point for the effectiveness of Polymath's infrastructure before pitching it to outside issuers.
