Wall Street’s shift toward blockchain technology is gaining momentum, with major firms like BlackRock embracing tokenization. Larry Fink, BlackRock’s CEO, anticipates that all stocks and bonds will eventually settle on a shared, tokenized ledger. This transition is already underway for Treasuries and securities, with real-economy assets like equipment, franchises, real estate, and private credit poised to follow. However, compliance remains a significant hurdle, as assets with securities obligations require built-in identity verification, transfer restrictions, and regulatory controls.
TruGolf Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUG) has taken a strategic step in this direction by acquiring Polymath Research Inc., along with its Layer-1 blockchain, Polymesh. Designed for regulated assets, Polymesh integrates compliance and identity checks into its base layer. Less than a week after the acquisition, TruGolf’s franchise subsidiary, TruGolf Links Franchising, signed an agreement with Polymath to move its capitalization table onto Polymesh’s infrastructure. Additionally, Polymath is exploring a tokenized film investment platform with CineCity Studios, expanding TruGolf’s reach into entertainment finance.
Tokenized real-world assets have already surpassed $38 billion on public blockchains, held by over five billion investors. By the end of 2025, Polymath reported issuing more than $132 million in tokenized assets, with over 65 active issuers and 50 ecosystem partners. The company also has a backlog exceeding $1 billion, indicating strong institutional demand. TruGolf’s acquisition positions it as a leader in regulated tokenization, with plans to deploy the infrastructure internally before offering it to outside issuers.
TruGolf is piloting its first real-world application internally, aiming to address franchise financing challenges. The company plans to introduce an equipment leasing program funded through tokenized securities, offering fractional ownership opportunities to qualified franchisees. This initiative is designed to provide small operators with better access to financing, marking a significant step in the practical application of tokenization.
