Trump Admin Eyes Overseas Boost for Dollar-Backed Stablecoins
The Trump administration is exploring initiatives to promote dollar-backed stablecoins abroad as a way to boost the dollar's status as a global reserve asset and increase demand for U.S. Treasuries.
According to a Bloomberg report, this effort would involve joint ventures between private firms and federal agencies such as the Treasury Department and the State Department.
Private companies like Circle and Paxos could be involved in these partnerships, which come amid the implementation of the GENIUS Act that provides a regulatory framework for dollar-backed stablecoins.
The GENIUS Act requires issuers to hold short-dated treasuries as reserve assets to back their stablecoins, which could boost demand for U.S. Treasuries if these stablecoins gain more adoption abroad.
