Trump Agrees to Crypto Bill Ethics Concessions Amid Uncertainty
President Donald Trump has agreed to new ethics rules as part of a sweeping cryptocurrency bill in the Senate, but whether those concessions are enough remains uncertain.
The bill aims to bring legitimacy to the $2.3 trillion crypto market and could have far-reaching implications for the industry.
According to sources, Trump initially agreed to a measure that would bar him and his wife from issuing meme coins, similar to the ones they launched before his second inauguration in January.
However, this was just one of several concessions. A tougher ethics proposal was presented by Senators Ruben Gallego and Thom Tillis, which would require Trump to put his crypto holdings in a blind trust and divest when those holdings reach a certain value.
The bill also includes a provision that allows state attorneys general to step in and enforce the law if the Justice Department refuses, a critical measure for Democrats who have expressed concerns about relying on a Trump-appointed attorney general.
