Trump Announces Plans to Bring Hyperliquid Onshore
US President Donald Trump has signaled plans to bring the cryptocurrency exchange Hyperliquid onshore, according to comments made at a White House event. He stated that regulators are working to bring Hyperliquid into the country in a 'fully compliant and legal fashion'.
The move would allow Hyperliquid to operate within US oversight, providing American traders with access to its platform. Currently, Hyperliquid operates outside of the US and is not officially open to American traders.
Hype, the cryptocurrency tied to Hyperliquid, saw a 31% jump in shares on August 19 after Trump's comments. This surge was also reflected in Hyperliquid Strategies, a publicly traded company that holds HYPE token. Its focus on HYPE gives traditional equity investors an indirect way to bet on Hyperliquid's growth.
The CFTC has laid out conditions for regulated US platforms to offer perpetual contracts, part of the broader effort by the Trump administration to move crypto businesses and trading activity into the American financial system.
