Trump Appoints Pro-Crypto Mark Uyeda as Interim SEC Chairman
US President Donald Trump has appointed Mark Uyeda as the interim chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), replacing Gary Gensler. This move marks a significant shift in the US government's stance on digital assets, with Uyeda being known for his more pro-crypto views. Uyeda previously served as legal adviser to former Senate members Pat Toomey on the Senate Banking Committee and worked with former SEC Commissioner Michael Piwowar.
Uyeda's appointment is expected to bring about positive changes in the crypto market, especially after his criticism of Gensler's strict policies. In a joint speech with Commissioner Hester Peirce, Uyeda called the crypto asset trading environment unavoidable and opposed law enforcement actions against crypto companies that did not commit fraud.
The leadership change also took place at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), with Caroline Pham and Travis Hill being appointed as interim chairmen, respectively. This move shows a positive signal for the crypto industry in the United States.
