Trump-Backed Crypto Firm Partners with Chinese AI Platform Despite National Security Risks
A crypto firm backed by President Donald Trump is collaborating with a Hong Kong-based venture that provides access to AI models from Chinese technology companies, including some flagged by his administration for national security concerns.
The company, WorldClaw, offers 90 AI models and accepts tokens from Trump-backed World Liberty Financial as payment. Of these, 43 were developed by Alibaba, Baidu, Z.ai, and other Chinese companies that the Trump administration has deemed a risk to national security and intellectual property.
Sam Bresnick, a fellow at Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology, said the collaboration is 'hypocritical' given the US government's stance toward Chinese technology companies. The potential profits for Trump through World Liberty have sparked concern among experts on Chinese technology, trade, and government ethics.
The Trump family owns 38% of World Liberty and earns money through the sale or use of its crypto tokens, which has generated over $1.4 billion in earnings since its inception. The company's partnership with WorldClaw also raises questions about potential conflicts of interest.
