Trump-Backed WLFI Token Delayed Amid Iran War Disruptions
World Liberty Financial (WLFI) has delayed plans to launch a digital token tied to a Trump-branded resort in the Maldives. The token was supposed to allow investors to earn a share of revenue from loans financing the ultra-luxury resort.
The project, developed by UK-based Dar Global, features 80 luxury beach and over-water villas and remains unfinished. WLFI intended the Maldives token as a test case for its broader strategy of bringing real-world assets onto the blockchain.
WLFI's native token WLFI trades at around $0.055, down approximately 83% from its all-time high of about $0.32 reached in September 2025. The delay adds to a difficult stretch for World Liberty, which has faced scrutiny over the $100 million purchase of its governance tokens by a buyer under UK police investigation for money laundering.
Dar Global CEO Ziad El Chaar said that the company continues to advance its partnership with Donald Trump's organization and evaluates project timelines based on market conditions, regulatory requirements, and long-term strategic objectives.
