Trump Buys into MSTR as Bitcoin-Linked Stock Surges
President Donald Trump's recent financial disclosure has shed light on his investment strategy in Michael Saylor's company, Strategy. According to a filing from the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, accounts linked to Trump bought shares of MSTR, the Bitcoin-linked stock, in July.
The purchases were made just before the stock began its sharp recovery, with MSTR climbing about 83% since the July 24 purchase level. The larger purchase on July 27 is up roughly 70% based on the latest closing price.
Strategy's Bitcoin-focused business has been gaining attention from Wall Street firms, which have raised their price targets for MSTR. Historically, MSTR has moved around 2x to 2.5x more than Bitcoin during strong market rallies, making it an attractive option for investors seeking Bitcoin exposure without directly holding the cryptocurrency.
The timing of Trump's purchases is notable, as they came when the broader market was near multi-month lows. The White House and Trump Organization have stated that third-party managers handle the stock and bond accounts, with Trump listed as the beneficiary.
