Trump Buys Strategy Stock as He Sells Bitcoin Miners Amid Rising Costs
President Donald Trump's financial transactions have raised eyebrows as federal filings reveal that he purchased up to $100,000 of Strategy stock on July 27, 2026, while selling shares of Bitcoin miners MARA Holdings and CleanSpark just two days later.
The trades were part of a total of 1,156 transactions made in July, with the largest purchase being between $50,001 and $100,000. Strategy is a treasury company that raises funds to buy and hold Bitcoin, which it currently holds about 846,000 units valued at around $71 billion.
The miners, on the other hand, face higher costs due to rising electricity prices. MARA reported its electricity costs for Bitcoin production rose to $38,690 per coin in July, up from $33,735. CleanSpark is exploring opportunities in AI data centers to generate more consistent revenue.
According to the White House, third-party managers run Trump's accounts through model portfolios that track stock indexes, with no input from the President or his family. The size of the trades was relatively small compared to other transactions made during July.
