Trump Defends Warsh Despite Fed Rate Hike Disagreement
US President Donald Trump has maintained his support for Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh after the September 2026 rate hike, despite disagreeing with the decision to raise interest rates.
Trump argued that U.S. interest rates should be substantially lower and stated that he had told Warsh that opposing the increase would not have made a difference in the outcome.
The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%, 4.00% on September 16, with all 12 voting members supporting the decision.
Trump's support for Warsh may be tested if the Fed raises rates again in October or December, which could put greater political pressure on the Fed chair and influence Treasury yields, financial conditions, and risk assets such as Bitcoin.
