Trump Dismisses Calls for AI Regulation, Labels Effort as 'SICK Conspiracy'
US President Donald Trump has dismissed calls for stricter regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers, labelling the efforts as part of a 'SICK conspiracy' against AI.
In a social media post, Trump claimed that he is a sufficient guardrail against rogue AI, stating 'The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!'
The president specifically mentioned that his administration had already stopped the AI company Anthropic from engaging in potentially harmful activities.
Trump pushed back against calls for regulation from tech leaders at companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft, who argue that stricter oversight is necessary to ensure AI development promotes safety, addresses legal liability, and preserves national security.
The president claimed that efforts to regulate AI could cause China to surpass the US in AI development, stating 'There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China.'
