Trump Family Interests Complicate Crypto Regulation Efforts
The cryptocurrency industry's efforts to secure regulatory clarity hit another snag as Senate Republicans failed to advance a key bill. The legislation, aimed at integrating digital assets into the traditional financial system, was met with resistance from Democrats due to concerns over President Donald Trump's family business interests.
According to CNN, the crypto industry invested millions of dollars in lobbying for this bill, but its passage has been delayed by the president's own cryptocurrency ventures. The Trump family reportedly earned more than $1 billion from these projects, sparking ethics concerns among Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune defended the bill, stating that 'Democrats will probably never be satisfied.' However, Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego accused Republicans of ending negotiations prematurely and trying to force a vote without a compromise.
The failed vote led to a decline in Bitcoin's price by 4% to approximately $75,700, while Coinbase shares dropped 10% and Circle securities fell 11%. Market participants remain optimistic, citing the industry's growth and commitment to developing digital asset infrastructure.
