Trump Family's $1B Crypto Windfall Complicates Clarity Act Negotiations
President Donald Trump's family has profited handsomely from digital asset ventures since his return to the White House in 2025. According to a recent financial disclosure, the president's income from these investments exceeds $1 billion, with estimates ranging from $1.2 billion to $1.43 billion.
The majority of this income comes from two sources: World Liberty Financial and the infamous $TRUMP meme coin. The former is a DeFi project launched by Trump's family in 2024, which controls 75% of its token sale proceeds. These proceeds have been flowing generously to Trump-linked entities.
The latter, the $TRUMP meme coin, has crashed more than 97% from its peak. WLFI tokens, meanwhile, have dropped roughly 80% in value.
The financial windfall has complicated bipartisan negotiations over the Clarity Act, a sweeping market structure bill that aims to give the crypto industry its regulatory framework. Democrats now want the bill rewritten with provisions specifically designed to prevent sitting presidents and their families from cashing in on digital assets.
