Trump Hosts Exclusive Dinner for Top Buyers of His Cryptocurrency
President Donald Trump is hosting an exclusive dinner for the top buyers of his cryptocurrency, the $TRUMP coin. The event, taking place on November 22 at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, will bring together the 185 largest holders of the coin. Those in the top 29 will receive an invitation to a VIP reception with the president, while the top four will be awarded an 18-karat Trump-branded gold watch.
The dinner is seen as a way for Trump to encourage sales of the $TRUMP coin and generate a profit. Last year, a similar dinner held at Trump's golf club in northern Virginia reportedly raised $148 million, with the full guest list kept private due to the president's off-the-clock attendance. Guests included Chinese billionaire Justin Sun and Vincent Liu, chief investment officer at Taiwan-based Kronos Research.
Trump's cryptocurrency ventures have been lucrative for him, with an estimated $2.2 billion in profits last year. However, the coin has lost an estimated $4.7 billion for its investors, according to watchdog group Public Citizen. The dinner has raised concerns about potential ethical violations, with the president clearly selling access to himself.
