Trump-Linked Crypto Firm Gets Conditional Green Light on Stablecoin Issuance

Share

A crypto company tied to President Trump has received a preliminary nod for a bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

The company, World Liberty Financial, sponsors a trust with deep ties to the White House. An entity linked to President Trump and some family members owns 38% of the business.

The conditional approval would allow World Liberty to issue stablecoins, which are crypto coins pegged to a dollar and backed by low-risk assets like U.S. Treasurys.

The shift in regulatory approach under the Trump administration has led to a significant increase in charter applications from crypto companies, with 40 filed since 2025.
