Trump-Linked Crypto Project Embroiled in Money Laundering Scandal
A major controversy has emerged over the cryptocurrency project World Liberty Financial (WLFI), which is linked to Donald Trump and his family. The project received a massive investment of $100 million from businessman Guren 'Bobby' Zhou, but it has been revealed that Zhou is under investigation for money laundering in the UK.
Zhou was arrested in 2021 and the investigation is still ongoing as of July 2026. Although no formal charges have been filed yet, his past failed ventures and false partnership claims in the Caduceus project raise concerns about the credibility of the investment.
The $100 million investment came from Zhou's company Aqua 1, which purchased governance tokens in WLFI. The revenue-sharing agreement between WLFI and Trump-controlled entities resulted in $75 million being transferred to a company controlled by Trump and his sons.
WLFI spokesperson David Wachsman stated that the company complies with all legal regulations and runs a compliance program that exceeds industry standards, but he did not provide clear information about Zhou's source of funds. The White House claims that Trump has no conflict of interest.
