Trump Media Abandons Caution, Enters Crypto Market with $238M Loss
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), parent company of Truth Social, reported a net loss of $238 million for the second quarter of 2025. The significant loss prompted the company to revamp its cryptocurrency treasury strategy.
The financial results included substantial non-cash expenses related to stock-based compensation and changes in the fair value of certain warrant liabilities. Revenue for the quarter was approximately $1.1 million, reflecting the company's early stage of monetization. As of June 30, TMTG held about $350 million in cash and marketable securities.
The company's board has authorized management to explore investments in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a hedge against inflation and to align with the digital asset ecosystem. This move follows a broader trend among publicly traded companies adopting crypto as a treasury reserve asset.
