Trump Media Abandons Crypto and Betting Initiatives Amid Widespread Losses
Trump Media and Technology Group reported a significant second-quarter net loss of $238 million, a tenfold increase from last year's deficit. The company attributed this widening loss to heavy spending on experimental ventures in cryptocurrency and online betting.
The firm, which operates Truth Social, had attempted to diversify beyond social media into digital tokens and sports wagering but ultimately shifted its strategy due to mounting losses.
Newly installed CEO Kevin McGurn announced plans to wind down these initiatives and refocus on the company's core social communications platform. McGurn stated, 'We made the disciplined choice to pivot in order to invest more time and resources in our most important initiatives.'
Trump Media is also pursuing a premium data service called Truth API, which provides fast access to public platform posts for institutional trading desks.
