Trump Media Abandons Crypto Venture Amid Market Slowdown
Trump Media has scrapped its Crypto.com CRO venture and scaled back plans to build prediction markets on Truth Social, citing prevailing market conditions and shifting business priorities.
The company's decision comes after it acquired $105 million of Crypto.com's Cronos token, CRO, in September 2025. However, the market for digital asset treasuries has lost momentum, prompting Trump Media to refocus on its core media business and pending merger with TAE.
Trump Media retains 9,542 BTC on its balance sheet and recently moved 2,628 BTC, worth around $165 million, to Crypto.com-associated addresses. The company's interim CEO, Kevin McGurn, stated that the digital asset treasury market has become saturated, leading Trump Media to shift its attention to media, data licensing, and completing the proposed merger with TAE before the end of 2026.
The CLARITY Act remains stalled in Washington, amid debate over ethics and potential conflicts of interest linked to President Donald Trump's crypto ventures. Trump Media still maintains bitcoin exposure on its balance sheet, despite cancelling plans for Crypto.com-powered prediction markets directly into Truth Social.
