Trump Media Overhauls Crypto Treasury After $238 Million Q2 Loss
Trump Media, parent company of Truth Social and other digital media platforms, has revamped its crypto treasury strategy after reporting a $238 million net loss in the second quarter. The loss was largely driven by unrealized losses on digital assets, pledged digital assets, and equity securities, amounting to $190.4 million.
The company's Bitcoin holdings saw a significant increase during the quarter, rising from 9,477.16 BTC on June 30 to approximately 14,139 BTC by July 31, valued at around $890.5 million. This surge was achieved through the sale of $159.6 million worth of Bitcoin-related securities and the subsequent purchase of additional Bitcoin.
Trump Media has implemented a revised digital asset treasury framework aimed at preserving long-term exposure to cryptocurrencies while managing volatility and redirecting capital towards its media operations. However, the company warns that its yield-generating arrangements expose it to counterparty credit risks and potential asset losses due to unsecured arrangements with counterparties.
