Trump Media Overhauls Crypto Treasury Amid $238M Quarterly Loss
Trump Media & Technology Group has decided to overhaul its crypto treasury strategy after reporting a significant $238.1 million second-quarter loss, largely attributed to digital asset volatility and balance-sheet management.
The company held about $1.9 billion in financial assets on June 30 and owned approximately 9,477.16 BTC, down from 9,542.16 BTC three months earlier.
Despite the quarterly losses, Trump Media expanded its direct Bitcoin position during July by selling $159.6 million of Bitcoin-related securities and acquiring more BTC, lifting its holdings to about 14,139 BTCDuring this time, management moved beyond simple ownership through lending, placement, options, and other income-focused structures.
However, these arrangements may expose Trump Media to counterparty credit risk and asset-recovery problems, as some counterparties may not carry ratings from major credit agencies and market declines or liquidity stress could trigger defaults.
