Trump Media's $165M Bitcoin Transfer Sparks Scrutiny Over Collateral Obligations

Trump Media, the parent company of Truth Social, has moved 2,628 BTC worth approximately $165 million to Crypto.com in two transactions during early August. This move brings their total Bitcoin holdings to about 4,261 BTC, which is close to the collateral balance for their convertible notes, totaling around 4,260.73 BTC.

The remaining balance of about 4,261 BTC closely matches the amount listed as collateral for the company's convertible notes, which cannot be distributed or withdrawn until May 29, 2028. However, it is unclear if this balance represents the pledged collateral, and tagged wallets may not capture every Bitcoin address controlled by the company.

Representatives of Trump Media maintained that no sale occurred, but Crypto.com acts as both a custodian and trading venue, making it difficult to determine whether the transfer was for custody or sale purposes. A sale would appear as a realized loss on their next quarterly filing.
