Trump Media's $200M Bitcoin Transfer to Crypto.com Sparks Speculation
A recent transfer of Bitcoin from Trump Media's wallets to Crypto.com has sparked speculation about whether it was a sale or simply a custody move. The company sent approximately 2,650 BTC to Crypto.com on May 22, 2026, with the value at the time estimated to be around $205 million.
The transfer is visible on-chain, but this does not necessarily mean that Trump Media sold the Bitcoin. A sale has not been proven, and company filings provide a more nuanced explanation for the move.
According to its first-quarter 2026 filing, Trump Media held 4,260.73 BTC as collateral for convertible notes, with restrictions on distribution or withdrawal until May 29, 2028. This means that some of the company's Bitcoin position was already tied up in financing arrangements before any transfer appeared on-chain.
The broader picture is one of pressure on Trump Media's treasury. With an average cost of around $118,522 per BTC, the company spent a total of roughly $1.37 billion to accumulate 11,542 BTC. By late May, Bitcoin was trading well below this entry price, leaving the treasury deeply underwater on paper.
