More than half of the top holders vying for seats at President Trump's upcoming meme coin dinner appear to be based overseas, according to a CBS News analysis. The gala, scheduled for November 22 at the Trump National Golf Club, will seat the 185 largest holders of the $TRUMP meme coin, with the top 29 receiving VIP seating and a reception with the president.
Out of the 100 top holders listed, at least 52 have used cryptocurrency exchanges that prohibit U.S. customers, such as Binance, Bybit, and MEXC. This suggests that many of the buyers are likely foreign. The top 29 holders account for nearly $6.8 million of the over $15 million in value reflected on the coin leaderboard as of October 2026.
The $TRUMP meme coin has been a significant financial boon for Mr. Trump, who earned at least $635 million in royalties last year from a licensing deal tied to the token. An affiliate of the Trump Organization earns revenue whenever the coin is traded. Critics argue that the dinner raises concerns about foreign influence, with one researcher noting that Trump is 'holding the front door open and inviting them in for a steak dinner.'
The coin's total market value has dropped more than 95% since its peak in January 2025, to about $532 million. Democrats and progressive watchdog groups have raised questions about the potential for foreign actors to pay for access to the president. The Trump Organization did not respond to requests for comment, while a White House official stated that the event is private and not a government function.
