Trump Memecoin Event Draws Ethics Scrutiny from Senate Democrats
Democratic lawmakers are raising ethics concerns over an upcoming event for President Donald Trump's TRUMP memecoin, which is scheduled for November 22 at the Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
The event, which is being marketed to the top 185 token holders, promises VIP access and exclusive gifts, including an 18-karat Trump-branded gold watch for the top four buyers.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut criticized the commercial venture, saying, 'Clearly the president is more focused on pathetically pumping the price of his worthless memecoin than Americans' cost-of-living crisis.'
Blumenthal and other Democratic lawmakers argue that the business arrangement presents clear ethical conflicts, with one senator calling it 'corruption.'
The White House has referred inquiries to event organizers, saying the president's assets are managed independently by third-party financial institutions.
