Trump Summit Fails to Break Bitcoin Out of Range as Institutional Fund Flows Remain Weak
Bitcoin's price has been stuck in a tight range between $64,500 and $65,000 for several days. According to CoinMarketCap, as of August 19th at 8:29 a.m., the price of Bitcoin was $64,686, representing a 0.4% increase from the previous day. This comes after news broke that President Trump would be hosting a crypto industry summit at the White House on August 19th, which initially sent cryptocurrency prices soaring.
The summit, which will feature CEOs from companies like Coinbase and Ripple, along with SEC and CFTC chairpersons, was expected to boost investor confidence. However, the market's momentum has been tempered by institutional fund outflows, which saw around $390 million flow out of spot Bitcoin ETFs between August 10th and 14th, the largest weekly outflow in two months.
The news has also had a ripple effect on the broader stock market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.22% to 53,343.40, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.69% to 7,691.97 and the Nasdaq composite ended down 1.33% at 26,289.71.
