Trump Taps SEC's Crypto Enforcement Chief to Lead AI Push
President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a 'Super Intelligence Force' to coordinate the federal government's efforts in artificial intelligence. The task force, also referred to as 'Super Intelligence,' will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who has been named the administration's new AI czar. Clayton is a familiar name in the crypto space, having overseen the SEC's regulation-by-enforcement approach during his tenure as chair. He brought 57 cases against crypto firms, ICOs, and other blockchain projects, and his SEC sued Ripple for $1.3 billion in December 2020, alleging the company sold XRP as an unregistered security.
The Super Intelligence Force will report to Trump and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles. The group will coordinate federal engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and AI companies. Clayton's appointment as AI czar has sparked interest in the crypto community, given his history with the SEC and his recent roles in the space.
Trump's announcement follows a meeting with major tech companies at the White House last week, which he called the 'Historic White House Accord on Super Intelligence.' During the meeting, the companies 'confirmed their responsibilities to the American People,' Trump wrote.
