Trump Touts US Leadership in Crypto at White House Meeting
President Donald Trump welcomed technology executives and financial regulators to the White House on August 10, touting US leadership in cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. Representatives from major companies including Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq were present, alongside SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Mike Selig.
'We're delighted to welcome some of our nation's brightest minds in finance, crypto, and technology ahead of the first-ever meeting of the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee,' Trump said. 'The people in this room are ensuring that the future of commercial markets is pioneered and perfected right here in the USA.'
The meeting came a day after the SEC proposed new rules for certain cryptocurrency token offerings, potentially making it easier for companies to issue tokens and raise money. The CFTC is also scheduled to discuss cryptocurrency regulation Thursday.
Trump criticized the Biden administration's approach to cryptocurrency, saying their policies discouraged innovation. He urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, legislation designed to establish clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. A Senate vote on the bill is scheduled for September 15.
