Trump Trades Bitcoin Miners for Treasury Stock in Slew of July Transactions
President Donald Trump's financial transactions have raised questions about his stance on Bitcoin. According to a recent federal filing, Trump's accounts purchased up to $100,000 of Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) stock on July 27, just before selling shares of two Bitcoin miners: MARA Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA) and CleanSpark (NASDAQ:CLSK).
The trades were made through model portfolios that track stock indexes, with no input from Trump or his family. The Office of Government Ethics released the information on September 22, highlighting a total of 1,156 transactions made in July.
Strategy is a treasury company that holds Bitcoin and raises funds to buy more. Its value fluctuates with Bitcoin's price, and debt and shares sold to buy more Bitcoin amplify those changes. In contrast, miners like MARA and CleanSpark face higher costs due to power and equipment expenses.
