Trump Vows Tariff on EU After Google Fined Record $1 Billion
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 'substantial' tariff on the European Union (EU) following its recent $1 billion fine on Google for allegedly giving search priority to its own services.
In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the EU of 'ROBBING' American companies and taxpayers, claiming that the fines were issued 'without explanation.'
The European Commission, however, stated that the fines totaling 890 million euros were due to Google's alleged noncompliance with the bloc's Digital Markets Act.
Trump claimed that the EU's behavior is 'not going to continue during the Trump Administration,' and vowed to launch an investigation under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which permits the imposition of tariffs in response to practices that are found to unfairly burden US commerce.
