Trump's Crypto Empire Blocks Key Regulation Bill in Senate
The crypto industry has been eagerly awaiting regulation for years, and many believed that President Donald Trump's support would finally bring clarity to the space. However, a key bill aimed at providing regulatory certainty for digital assets was recently blocked in the Senate due to concerns about the president's own crypto business.
Trump has raked in over $1 billion from various crypto businesses he and his sons launched shortly before taking office last year. Democrats argued that the Clarity Act, which failed to pass a key procedural vote, did not sufficiently prevent public officials from trading crypto. Sen. Elizabeth Warren criticized the bill, saying it would allow Trump 'to buy, sell or trade crypto.'
Republicans and some Democrats defended the bill, stating that opponents had moved the goalposts after a year of negotiations. However, Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego accused Republicans of abruptly ending negotiations to force a vote.
The failure to pass the crypto bill is just the latest in a string of disappointments for the industry under Trump's administration. Despite the setback, several market participants remained optimistic, suggesting that regulatory clarity is still on the horizon.
