Trump's Crypto Empire Soars as Democrats Demand Ethics Reform
US President Donald Trump has made $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025, according to recent reports. This figure is more than his entire real estate empire.
Trump's push for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act by September 15th is being met with skepticism by Democrats, who want the bill to come with real ethics rules that address the president's own crypto holdings. The White House claims that President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff has fully divested from his crypto investments.
However, financial filings show that Witkoff reported nearly $107 million in income last year from a holding company tied to World Liberty Financial, which is the crypto arm co-founded by Witkoff's son and Trump's three sons. This figure is more than 3x what he reported from the same entity a year earlier.
The venture has also drawn scrutiny for teaming up with a Hong Kong AI platform running Chinese models, as well as its plans to launch its own bank backed in part by a fund connected to the UAE's national security adviser. This is someone Witkoff has met with directly as an envoy.
