Trump's 'Made In America' Bitcoin Mining Pledge Crumbles Amid AI Boom
Donald Trump's pledge to keep Bitcoin mining centered in the US is falling apart as facilities convert into AI data centers and computing power shifts back toward China and Russia.
The use of energy capacity by U.S.-listed public miners has declined significantly, with Bloomberg reporting that Bitcoin mining is using 18% less computing power today than in October 2025. According to Luxor Technology COO Ethan Vera, this trend is expected to continue as public miners redirect their energy toward AI data centers.
Foundry USA, the largest US-compliant mining pool, has seen its share of total Bitcoin network computing power drop from over one-third to 26% since October 2025. Meanwhile, Chinese pools AntPool and F2Pool have picked up the slack in terms of market share.
