Trump's Memecoin Campaign Sparks Ethics Concerns Amid Stalled Crypto Legislation
The Trump memecoin campaign is hosting another private dinner for its top holders. The event, scheduled for November 22 at Trump's Washington DC golf club, will include President Donald Trump and three unnamed guests. Only the top 185 TRUMP tokenholders, ranked by holdings from September 30 to November 12, are eligible to attend.
This is the third known gathering of its kind, following a May 2025 dinner in Washington DC for 220 holders and an April 2026 luncheon at Mar-a-Lago for 297 guests. Critics have accused Trump of selling access to the presidency through 'pay-to-play' schemes, with some arguing that the events create unethical profiteering opportunities.
Public Citizen has estimated that investors connected to Trump's crypto ventures are $4.7 billion underwater since 2022, including $3.2 billion attributed to the memecoin. Senator Chris Coons called the event 'corruption' in a recent post. TRUMP's price rose about 9% after the announcement.
