Trump's MSTR Trades Spark Ethics Concerns as Stock Surges
A recent federal ethics filing reveals President Donald Trump's stock accounts made several trades in Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), resulting in an 83% gain. The sales and purchases were made between June and July, with the largest purchase occurring on July 27 at $98.65 per share.
The sale of shares worth $16,002 to $65,000 on June 23 and June 24 came just before the stock hit its lowest point for the summer. A third sale followed on July 8, worth $1,001 to $15,000, before the accounts reversed course and started buying.
The larger July 27 purchase now sits up roughly 70% as Strategy closed at $167.33 on September 22. As Strategy holds the largest corporate Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) position in the world, its stock tends to move in step with crypto prices.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Robert Garcia sent a letter on August 12 demanding answers about whether Trump's stock trading created conflicts between his personal finances and official duties.
