Trump's WLFI Stake Locked Until 2028 Amid Crypto Ethics Rules
Former US President Donald Trump's stake in World Liberty Financial (WLFI) has been locked until 2028, according to blockchain data. The initial unlock schedule for the $800 million WLFI allocation linked to Trump reveals that the first tokens will become accessible in 2028.
The WLFI tokens were previously locked indefinitely as part of Trump's founder allocation. A vesting contract was created in May, with a two-year cliff followed by a three-year vesting period. This means that instead of being sellable all at once, the tokens will be gradually unlocked over time.
The contract holds nearly half of WLFI's current supply of 96.7 billion tokens. The largest wallet deposited 15.75 billion WLFI and now holds 14.175 billion tokens, aligning with Trump's publicly disclosed founder stake. A community vote approved the burn process for founder tokens and a longer vesting schedule than for other holders.
The development coincides with crypto ethics rules being discussed in the US Congress through the Clarity Act bill. The bill proposes that high-level public officials must divest or transfer significant crypto assets to a qualified blind trust. However, it remains uncertain how these rules would apply to Trump's WLFI allocation.
