Tyler Crypto Mining Center Denied Again Over Missed Deadline
A proposed cryptocurrency mining center in downtown Tyler, Texas has been denied again after the city's Zoning Board of Adjustment ruled it lacked jurisdiction to hear an appeal due to a missed deadline.
The developer, Barrio Resources LLC, had sought to challenge a June 2025 zoning decision requiring a special use permit for the facility at 1101 and 1105 West Erwin Street. However, the company's attorney argued that only the board itself, not city staff, had the authority to dismiss the case.
The appeal was filed 364 days after the deadline, which is in conflict with Texas state law, which caps the appeal window at 20 days. The developer still has legal options to keep the project alive and can choose to move forward with a separate, timely appeal challenging the Planning and Zoning Commission's July denial of its special use permit.
