U.S. House Advances Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act Amid Industry Push for Changes

Share

The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee has advanced the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act, a broad crypto tax bill that addresses various issues related to digital assets.

The legislation aims to provide clarity on taxation for stablecoin payments, transaction fees, digital asset lending, mining, and staking.

Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI) has expressed support for the bill but requested changes to its treatment of staking rewards. The council argued that taxing staking rewards upon receipt would create tax liabilities before recipients realize an economic gain.

According to CCI, approximately 88% of centralized exchange trading volume occurs on non-U.S. platforms, and fewer than 29% of validator nodes for the ten largest proof-of-stake networks are located in the United States.
