U.S. Reserve Policy: 328,372 BTC Not the Full Story
The U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve was established by Executive Order 14233 in March 2025, but its true size is not as clear-cut as often reported.
The reserve currently holds an estimated 328,372 BTC, worth around $25.3 billion at the latest price shown by BitcoinTreasuries.
This figure comes from publicly available trackers and does not reflect a formal audited statement from the Treasury Department.
The majority of the government's Bitcoin holdings originated from law enforcement actions, including 94,000 BTC from the Bitfinex investigation, 50,676 BTC seized from James Zhong, and about 69,370 BTC associated with the Silk Road 'Individual X' case.
In October 2025, a civil forfeiture complaint was filed involving approximately 127,271 BTC connected to Prince Group founder Chen Zhi, which should be included in any current calculation of U.S. government Bitcoin holdings.
