UBS More Than Quadruples Stake in BlackRock Bitcoin ETF

UBS Group AG has significantly increased its exposure to Bitcoin through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). According to a regulatory filing, UBS held approximately 2.5 million shares of IBIT as of June 30, valued at nearly $90 million. This represents a roughly 355% increase in share count from the end of 2025 and a 230% growth in market value.

The expansion occurred during a period of significant price weakness for the fund, with IBIT's market price falling approximately 33% over six months. The increased stake is not necessarily an indication that UBS views Bitcoin as a major component of its investment strategy, given the bank's massive overall operations and assets under management.

UBS's move fits a broader pattern of traditional financial institutions using regulated exchange-traded products to gain access to Bitcoin. This trend has been driven by the SEC's approval of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, which created a pathway for banks and other investors to access the asset through familiar market infrastructure.
