UK Chancellor Slams Nigel Farage's Bitcoin Holdings

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey has publicly criticized Reform Party leader Nigel Farage's use of Bitcoin. In a recent speech, Healey referred to Farage as 'Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account,' implying that Farage's economic policies are similar to those of the UK's shortest-serving Prime Minister. Liz Truss was heavily criticized for her debt-fueled 2022 mini-budget.

Farage has been a pro-crypto politician since 2020, framing Bitcoin as a matter of personal freedom and opposition to state control of money. He has also stated that he would slash crypto capital gains taxes and force the Bank of England to establish a Bitcoin reserve if elected Prime Minister.

The comments from Healey were met with criticism from the Bitcoin community on X, who asked what exactly a 'Bitcoin account' is. The Reform Party has faced scrutiny over receiving millions of dollars in crypto donations from tech entrepreneurs Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo.
