UK Couple Targets of Cryptocurrency Home Attack Under Death Threats
A chilling cryptocurrency home attack took place in December in the UK, where masked intruders threatened to kill a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, reported that the attackers forced their way into their residence in Solihull, southeast of Birmingham. The husband described seeing gloves and balaclavas as they entered, before being hit with hammers when he tried to defend himself.
The attackers pinned his pregnant wife to the sofa and suffocated her with a pillow, while a fourth remote attacker guided them through FaceTime. They were searching for cryptocurrency wallets on their phone, eventually finding one containing a significant but undisclosed amount of funds.
The husband was coerced into sending hundreds of thousands of pounds to the attackers, who told him they would kill his wife and unborn child if he didn't comply. The remote ringleader took the majority of the stolen funds for himself, while the on-site attackers kept a smaller portion.
