UK Crypto Firms Face Deadline for Registration
The UK's cryptocurrency industry is bracing for a possible contraction as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) begins accepting registration applications. The FCA has established a five-month window, from September 30 to February 28, 2027, during which crypto firms can apply for authorization and continue operating in the country.
The deadline marks the start of the UK's new regulatory framework, which will come into effect on October 25, 2027. Firms that fail to submit their applications within this timeframe risk being cut off from the UK market when the regime begins.
According to the FCA, not all applicants will be granted approval. The regulator has a history of strict enforcement, with only 13 out of 23 recent rulings resulting in registrations, a 56% approval rate.
