UK FCA Accepts Crypto Authorization Applications Amid New Regulatory Regime
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has started accepting applications for authorization from crypto firms operating in the country. This move marks a significant step towards establishing a new regulatory framework for cryptoassets, which will introduce requirements for consumer protection, customer asset safeguarding, market integrity, and financial resilience.
Firms that wish to continue offering regulated cryptoasset services in the UK must submit their applications by February 28, 2027. The new regime is scheduled to take effect on October 25, 2027. Existing firms can continue providing services while their applications are under review if a decision has not been made by the start of the new regime.
The FCA emphasizes that authorization is not automatic and that firms must demonstrate they meet its standards. To support applicants, the regulator offers pre-application guidance and webinars. Those that fail to meet the requirements will be unable to offer regulated cryptoasset services in the UK.
