UK FCA Opens Application Window for Crypto Authorization
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened applications for crypto firms seeking authorization under the country's new regulatory framework. The application window is open through February 28, 2027, for firms using transitional arrangements.
The FCA's guidance covers a range of digital-asset activities, including issuing qualifying stablecoins and operating cryptoasset trading platforms. Existing registrations and permissions will not automatically convert into authorization under the new regime.
Firms already registered under the UK's anti-money-laundering framework may also need to apply for authorization or seek additional permissions. The new regime is scheduled to take effect on October 25, 2027, under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2026.
