UK FCA Opens Crypto Authorization Window with Tight Deadline
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened its authorization process for cryptoasset firms, giving them until February 28, 2027 to apply and meet strict requirements. The new framework takes effect on October 25, 2027, and companies serving the UK's digital-asset market must comply in order to continue providing regulated services.
The FCA has emphasized that filing an application is not the same as receiving authorization, and firms that do not satisfy the standards will be unable to continue operating. The requirements cover consumer protection, customer-asset custody, market integrity, and financial resilience.
Existing firms have been given a defined period to seek approval ahead of full implementation, with the FCA accepting applications through February 28, 2027. This move marks a significant step towards mandatory oversight in the UK's crypto sector.
